THE BIRTH OF A SYSTEM
  • 1935 Earl of Cottenham, Mark Pepys, wrote a book containing the rudiments of the system.
  • At this time the Metropolitan Police were having a significant amount of accidents.
  • A new driving school was set up at HENDON.
  • In1937 Lord Trenchard, police commissioner, asked Malcolm Campbell to involve PEPYS. He then took charge of the driving school, HENDON.
  • A year later the accident rate was reduced by 70%.
  • In1957 The system was adopted for motorcycles.
  • By 1970 a 88% reduction in accidents was achieved.

GEAR
  • THE CORRECT GEAR IS SELECTED FOR THE SPEED OF THE MACHINE FOLLOWING APPLICATION OF THE PREVIOUS FEATURES, INTERMEDIATE GEARS SHOULD BE PASSED THROUGH DURING THE LATTER STAGES OF BRAKING.


  • The Gears should not be selected to replace the brakes in their function of slowing the machine
